📌 Your Right to Data Deletion

Under privacy laws including GDPR and CCPA, you have the right to request deletion of your personal data. EventMap respects your privacy and makes it easy to delete your account and all associated data directly from the app.

📱 How to Delete Your Account & Data

Open the EventMap app

Launch EventMap on your mobile device and make sure you're signed in.

Go to Settings

Tap the "Settings" tab in the bottom navigation bar.

Navigate to Account Settings

Scroll down and tap "Account" section.

Tap "Delete Account"

You'll find a red "Delete Account" button at the bottom of the Account section.

Confirm Deletion

Read the warning message carefully, then confirm by tapping "Delete My Account" in the confirmation dialog.

Done!

Your account and all personal data will be permanently deleted within 24 hours.

⚠️ Important: This Action is Permanent

Account deletion cannot be undone. Once you delete your account, all your personal data will be permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

🗂️ What Data Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:

Profile Information: Name, email, photo, and account details
Authentication: Your sign-in credentials and access
Favorites: All events you've saved as favorites
RSVPs: Your attendance records for events
Chat Participation: Your access to event chats
Notification Tokens: Push notification settings
User Preferences: App settings and customizations

📋 What Happens to Your Events

Events you created:

Events remain visible but are marked as "Deleted User"
Your personal information (name, contact) is removed from the events
Event content is anonymized (for record-keeping purposes)
Other users' RSVPs and interactions are preserved

This ensures that events with active participants aren't disrupted while protecting your privacy.

⏱️ Data Retention Period

Immediate Deletion: Most of your personal data is deleted immediately when you request account deletion.

Legal Retention: Some anonymized data may be retained for up to 7 years for legal compliance, fraud prevention, and security purposes. This data is fully anonymized and cannot be linked back to you.

If you're unable to access the app or prefer to request deletion via email, you can contact us:

Include "Data Deletion Request" in the subject line and provide:
• Your email address used for the account
• Any additional details to help us identify your account

We will respond within 7 business days and complete the deletion within 30 days as required by GDPR.

Can I recover my account after deletion?

No. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. All your data is permanently removed.

How long does deletion take?

Most data is deleted immediately. Complete deletion from all systems occurs within 24-48 hours.

Will my events be deleted too?

Your events remain visible (anonymized) to preserve the experience for other attendees, but your personal information is completely removed from them.

Can other users still see my past chat messages?

Chat messages may remain visible but will show as from "Deleted User" with no link to your identity.

What if I just want to stop using the app temporarily?

You don't need to delete your account! You can simply sign out and uninstall the app. Your data will remain secure and you can return anytime.
